Our Pups are the heart of Athlone Primary, where the youngest learners begin their exciting school journey. In a nurturing and playful environment, they explore the joy of learning through structured play, creative activities, and lots of hands-on fun.
With dedicated teachers and a focus on early development, our Pups build confidence, social skills, and a love for discovery that sets the foundation for their future at Athlone. From their first steps in the classroom to their first mini-sports activities, our Pups are always encouraged to dream big and grow bright!
Grade R:
Grade R, the year before Grade 1, prepares children for primary school by transitioning them from unstructured to structured learning. Following the CAPS curriculum, it focuses on Language, Mathematics, and Life Skills, setting the foundation for their educational journey.
Grade 1 to Grade 3:
Our nurturing approach supports children’s physical, emotional, social, and intellectual growth. Using hands-on learning, creative exploration, and the CAPS curriculum, we help learners develop essential skills. Activities like Speech and Drama festivals, annual plays, and diverse learning experiences ensure a holistic education, fostering their full potential in and out of the classroom.
Our senior primary department (Grades 4-7) offers a balanced education focused on academic excellence and personal growth. Following the CAPS curriculum, we develop critical thinking, problem-solving, and creativity skills.
Our dedicated teachers promote active participation, teamwork, and leadership, preparing learners for their futures. Extracurricular activities, including sports, arts, and community outreach, help students explore their talents and build values of teamwork, responsibility, and compassion.

At Athlone Primary, sport is all about fun, teamwork, and developing skills! Our Junior Primary learners dive into the action with at least two sports sessions each week after school ends at 1:00 PM. From mini-cricket and mini-soccer to swimming and ball skills, there’s something for everyone. They also get the chance to shine at inter-school mini-festivals, proudly representing our school.
In Senior Primary, starting from Grade 3, the variety grows even more! Learners can take part in athletics, basketball, rugby, netball, hockey, soccer, and more. Whether they’re hitting the courts, running the track, or diving into the pool, every child is encouraged to explore their interests and build confidence.
